 Rating the boss cuts stress: Encouraging staff to tell their line managers what they think of them could reduce workplace stress, according to new research co-funded by the HSE, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the HR standard provider Investors in People UK. The study, presented this week at the British Psychological Society's occupational psychology conference, focused on the line manager-employee relationship, which it found to be the most commonly reported cause of work-related stress. Read More

 Government launches new wellbeing tool: The government-led Health, Work and Wellbeing initiative has launched a new “workplace wellbeing tool” to help employers evaluate the business case for improving workers’ health and wellbeing and offering advice tailored to their organisation. The free online tool replaces an existing spreadsheet-based “business healthcheck tool”, which many employers found cumbersome and difficult to use. Read More 

 Inquiry uncovers poor PPE and lack of training in meat factories: An inquiry into working conditions in meat processing plants has uncovered evidence that employers are not complying with their duties to provide workers with proper health and safety training and personal protective equipment (PPE).The report, published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), says more than half the food factory workers it interviewed raised concerns about health and safety. Meat processing plants employ almost 89,000 people in the UK. Read More
